Education Objectives: After successfully completing this module, the learners will be able to:

  • Define "tuberculosis" and its etiologic agent.
  • Discuss diagnostic clinical utility of the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Test.
  • Compare and contrast the roles of the tuberculin skin test and the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Test in diagnosing tuberculosis
  • State the purpose of each of the three QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Test blood collection tubes.
  • List potential specimen collection errors that could affect the results of the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Test.
